Iggy Pop and Jarvis Cocker Release ‘Red Right Hand’ Cover

As part of Peaky Blinders’ latest series, Iggy Pop and Jarvis Cocker have collaborated together for the BBC show’s theme song, ‘Red Right Hand’, originally penned by Nick Cave in 1997.

The two gigantic names join together not for the first time, though it may spark some interest and confusion due to the contrasting genres Pop and Cocker have produced in the past. Whilst Iggy Pop is commonly known as the ‘Godfather of Punk’, Jarvis Cocker’s Britpop and radio legacy has left him as a familiar name throughout the industry and modern contemporary culture.

However, the two world renowned musicians come together to produce a multi layer sounding post-punk grunge sound.

The track is very much modern and relevant, it has many similarities to well produced modern grunge type bands whilst also distancing itself from Nick Cave’s original version.

Musical differentiation is especially indicated through the emphasis of the eerie minor notes that are produced on guitar. This comes alongside the contrasting sound between Pop’s deepened voice throughout the track with Cocker’s much higher pitched sound which in many ways compares to the style of the BBC show.
