Reading & Leeds 2018: A Celebration Of Musical Diversity

Reading & Leeds may not be the sole rock festival it once was, and in many ways it is for the better. As a festival it boasts some of the best genre diversity on the planet, its 2018 headliners only prove this with Kings of Leon, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco and Kendrick Lamar all topping the bill.

Alongside such lavish headliners come the likes of Skepta, Courteeners, Wolf Alice, Pale Waves, The Vaccines, and Dua Lipa. In fact, it is the lower echelons of the line up which prove most exciting, HMLTD, Slaves, Spring King, Demob Happy, Fickle Friends and more all prove that the festival is still one for supporting new, up and coming music.

“Of all the festival names perhaps the most relevant is that of Kendrick Lamar”

First, lets focus on the headliners… Kings of Leon headline the festival for a second time with seven albums already released. Next comes Fall Out Boy, who are festival veterans and Panic! at the Disco, already nominated for grammy awards with their scintillating back catalogue.

Of all the festival names perhaps the most relevant is that of Kendrick Lamar. With five grammy awards to his name it is clear that his politically turbulent lyrics and unique blend of rap makes him, quite possibly, the greatest in the world. Latest album ‘DAMN’ is THE rap record of the decade, and it is only evident that his quest for world dominance is never ending in terms of growth.

Dua Lipa is record breaking and comes as a festival exclusive, though it is through the likes of Pale Waves and HMLTD where true creative presence is felt. The latter has a live show worth dying for, whereas Pale Waves are hotly tipped to be the next big thing!

Skepta is a musical pioneer and comes as grime’s unofficial commentator. Similarly, the likes of Nadia Rose, Wretch 32, J Hus, Lil Pump and Post Malone all feature across the weekend.

Wolf Alice top the Radio 1/NME stage and for good measure, their second album ‘Visions Of A Life’ is career defining and has already taken them to growing arenas and even larger world tours. Watch out for Tom Grennan, the Eudaemonia favourite is soon to become an ultra star, his presence at Reading is a must and one can only assume that this year will see him tour only the largest of venues.

Speaking on the festival, organiser Melvin Benn says:

“Reading and Leeds prides itself on being a music-first festival and this year’s line-up already proves that. Kings of Leon and Fall Out Boy are bands that have grown with the festival and its fans and we couldn’t be more pleased to invite them back to headline. Adding Panic! at the Disco and Kendrick Lamar, probably the most sought-after act in the world right now, we think Reading and Leeds Festivals 2018 are off to an amazing start – with even more to come, so watch this space.”

More acts are to be announced, Reading and Leeds will once again claim its rightful place at the top of the league as far as festivals go
