Pregoblin release delicious debut single ‘Combustion’

Cosmic background radiation afterglow is supposedly the furthest away point in our universe. Or at least, it was. Pregoblin’s ‘Combustion’ shatters all remnants of the outer galaxy and takes listeners into an entirely different dimension.

Hyperbole aside, this song is profound, already tipped to be one of the year’s best. Lyrically intriguing and effortlessly offbeat, it is at times hard to define ‘Combustion.’ On first listen it brings the misty aura of a 70s Discotheque, preferably one in Eastern Europe. It gives nod to the 80s too, think Talking Heads but more lascivious. Its reverb is delicious and chorus is groovy, no wonder listeners are already feverous for more.

Returning after somewhat of a musical hiatus, Alexander Sebley leads the bold musical outfit alongside Jessica Winters. Their contributive background is musically diverse, from the Fat White Family to indie pop band Will Sin For Love. With such a range of influences, Pregoblin offer a brand of music which is far from the mechanical terrors of the mainstream.

‘Combustion’ on record is sometimes menacing but entirely danceable. It comes into its own in the live setting, however. The Sebley/Winters partnership is intriguing, anyone who caught them before the Fat White Family’s duo of shows at The Lexington in February will know this. It is no wonder The Quietus have tipped them so strongly over the past year or so.

“‘Combustion’ shatters all remnants of the outer galaxy”

Named after pregabalin, the heroin recovery drug, ‘Combustion’ is as psychedelic as the band’s name sake. Perfect for late nights or gnarly early mornings. The debut single was co-produced by the band alongside collaborators Dan Foat and Nathan Boddy. It comes with a flurry of live outings including gigs at Brixton’s Windmill and Dalston’s Victoria this March, 2019.

We, much like many others, are desperate for more Pregoblin. For now, listen, rejoice and indulge in their first offering.
