Jana Bahrich, one half of Francis of Delirium, is lyrically and musically fluent. Joined by collaborator Chris Hewett, ’Karen’ makes for explosive listening.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Car Seat Headrest, St.Vincent, FKA Twigs, Sufjan Stevens, Tyler, the Creator, the duo admire musical spontaneity. There is a sense of frantic vulnerability in ‘Karen’ as guitar and lyricism combine.
‘Karen’ forms part of All Change. The EP centres itself on themes of spiralling negative thought. Each track is powerfully inquisitive of such repetitive mental monotony closing with somewhat of a wake up call in ‘Quit Fucking Around.’
As the effects of lockdown remain evermore rampant, ‘Karen’ and All Change as a whole remains entirely relevant. Returning to some kind of equilibrium is easier said than done.
