The Cribs have released their take on Comet Gain’s ‘Finger-Nailed For You.’ In celebration of famous North West coast label Kill Rock Star’s 30th anniversary.
Given the parameters of global pandemic, the cover was recorded in remotely in Gary’s basement (Portland), Ryan’s bedroom (NYC) and Ross’ garage (Wakefield). There is a sense of poetic full-circle, having originally recorded a demo in 2001 to be sent the KRS. The cover sheds none of the beautiful whimsicality of the original.
Speaking on the band, the Cribs state: “Comet Gain are one of the bands who have meant the most to us throughout our lives. From listening to them on cassette walkman on rainy bus journeys to college as teens, all the way through to becoming a full-time touring band, their music has been a consistent companion for us.”
Kill Rock Stars is a much celebrated indie record label founded in 1991. Based in Olympia, Washington and Portland, Oregon, the label is famed for the likes of Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists and Elliot Smith. This year marks their 30th anniversary, with over thirty artists from around the world covering tracks from their expansive catalogue.
