Cucamaras are soon to be one of Nottingham’s great exports, like textiles or bicycles. ‘Safe Bet’ is foot-stompingly good!
Teasing, scratchy guitar and lyrical wit combine to create the definition of immersive post-punk. The track explores complex relationships whilst being at university. It’s dark guitar riff was formerly composed the early stages of pandemic, now re-purposed with much ferocity.
Speaking on the track, vocalist Josh Hart says: “Safe Bet was written whilst I was in university. It was one of the first times I’d written about direct experiences, not my own, but what I was observing at the time.”
Cucamaras have gained much support in Nottingham and beyond, with their thunderous brand of sound reaching the airwaves of BBC 6 Music, Radio X, SiriusXM and more. Formed in the great East Midlands city, they will soon return to the live scene with further 2021 dates including Manchester and Liverpool.
Right or wrong, we live in an age where live music as we know it can return. There is no song more suited to a sweaty, packed, small venue than this one.
